Freesia by Sheridan is great value this month: there’s up to 50% off the duvet covers and pillowcases. Currently on display at the centre of our store, the Freesia design consists of delicate buttery flowers on a white background, a fresh look for the Spring/Summer months. Just add breakfast in bed…
Our staff picks this month make for an interesting array of products. Sheridan’s Chatworth which is currently on show in our shop window, is an eye-catching bedset with a Victorian/Gothic touch, and is Laura’s choice for the month. Gemma has opted for Tunis by Elainer, which boasts an abstract floral design, perfect for the forthcoming Summer months. Joan is raving about the Freesia design, particularly as it’s now available at an even nicer price! See our Offer of the Month for more details. And we’re all fond of Helena Springfield’s Farmyard design, especially Theresa!
Lisa Freemont Street’s Youtube channel is a favourite of ours. Packed full of tips and tutorials on vintage hairstyles and make-up.
The final season of Lost is definitely up for discussion with only five episodes left to go before the much-awaited finale.
Another YouTube find is the short film, The Butler’s in Love, directed by David Arquette. What makes this short extra interesting is the fact that it’s a 3D piece. Definitely worth checking out. This short got us thinking about the drink absinthe and it’s influence on film and literature. As drunk by Shelley..!
Feature length films on the agenda this month are..Shutter Islandwhich divided the critics of Household Linens. On the one hand, Gemma got the film’s twist, but for Laura it was an absolute surprise! We’re also partial to the oldies here too however and recently All About Eve had us talking about the role of women in the entertainment industry, and how forward thinking the film was for it’s time. Bette Davis packs a punch as Margot Channing, a star of the theatre threatened by her younger understudy, Eve.
While scouring the internet for presents, Laura came across a fabulous site called ETSY, specialising in handmade items and vintage finds.
Spring has sprung, and we are all very excited here at Household Linens. Lots of new designs are arriving every week, demonstrating a revival of bright fresh colours, and floral prints. Opulent styles are still prevalent within the Sheridan range with a new Oriental twist.
The First Avenue brand showcases plenty of young vibrant patterns, with good value still a priority. Hermione and Carolyn are two examples of this cheery feminine look. Our V&A range, which takes inspiration from the Royal Victoria and Albert museum in London, have brought out four fun vintage style sets which remain popular with all age groups. V&A sets begin at a friendly €22 for a single bed set. Accessorise your en-suite with beautiful Jacquard towels also from the V&A range. If you’re planning an early Spring getaway, you may consider keeping the kids happy with one of our Sheridan towel ponchos for use by the pool or on the beach.
Moving onto curtains, Gina G, an Irish company located in Drogheda, have brought out some new patterns sporting such vivid colours as lime and fuchsia, while still maintaining old favourites, such as gold, red and cream. This season, Curtain Express, with their vast array of reasonably priced readymades, have introduced fresh greens, duck egg blues, and aqua colours to brighten up any space.
The Fine Bedding Company, our favourite duvet and pillow supplier, have a great offer on Mulberry silk duvets. Quite different to
anything you would normally expect from a duvet, the silk filling provides plenty warmth (equivalent to a tog of between 6 and 8), yet is exceptionally breathable and lightweight.
Finally, if our new range of fresh Spring colours has inspired you, why not take a look at our gardening collection made up of tool belts, kneeling mats and gardening aprons.Don’t forget there are plenty more new designs coming shortly so watch this space.
Due to the high interest among our customers, we are now stocking silk pillowcases. Like ourselves, we are sure many of ye
enjoy reading beauty magazines and recently, you can’t escape the numerous articles on the benefits of silk pillowcases. Some of the beauty gurus claim that silk pillowcases help our skin, especially with the ageing process but it doesn’t stop there. They also claim that by using silk pillowcases, bed hair could become a thing of the past. Whether any of this is true, who knows..? Nevertheless, they are luxurious, hypoallergenic and feel beautiful next to the skin.
We stock silk pillowcases in three colours: light gold, snow, and silver. They are easy to care for, as you can wash them at 40 degrees, tumble dry them, and even have them dry cleaned.
Since all our new stock came in, we’ve been busy choosing our favourites, and what we would like to buy for our own sweet homes. So far, Gemma wants to get the ‘Blossom Trail’ V&A duvet cover, while Laura wants the First Avenue ‘Hermione’ design. Other staff picks are Sheridan’s ‘Tournay’, the paisley and farmyard shopping bags, and some scrim for Springtime window cleaning.
Other things under discussion throughout our *wink wink, nudge nudge, lunch breaks, are Matt Smith, the latest Dr. Who. Will he ever live up to David Tennant, who has been voted the best Doctor ever. Movies we have watched this month are Brief Encounter (do check YouTube for hilarious spoof videos of this very proper romantic classic), Cinema Paradiso and Twilight, bringing us to the conclusion that we are definitely a Team Edward bunch here, (not Bella!). For all things film related, check The Stub, our favourite film blog. Local events grabbing our attention are the O Bheal poetry meetings at the Long Valley pub on Winthrop Street every Monday evening. And also the free gigs and exhibitions at the ESB substation, the Triskel’s latest artistic space.
So here it is, the new Household Linens blog, soon to be packed full of information on our products, and the latest tips and need-to-know advice for dealing with curtains and soft furnishings. Feel free to look around, leave a comment if you wish, and do remember to drop by and view all our products at our store on Oliver Plunkett St, Cork.
